The walls and ahu of our ancestors have stood for generations. They are made from raw pōhaku, with no mortar. The art of dry stacking pōhaku, or uhauhumu pōhaku, practiced by our kūpuna allowed them to utilize what lay around. The mastery of the practice was in the ability of the craftsmen to select the right stone for the right place. Our kūpuna understood that the strength of the wall lay in the differences of these pōhaku and the ability of the mea haku to bring them together.
